Epilochias (Veteran SGT) Nicolaos Palaiopoulos by Talancir Epilochias (Veteran SGT) Nicolaos Palaiopoulos by Talancir
this is now a completed conversion. About the only thing on here that isn't Games Workshop is his belt and longcoat (thighs), the shield, and the extra plate on his left shoulder. All else on here is green stuff.

I modeled his helmet after greek helmet designs from the time of the Diodochi, as interpreted by a mod for Rome: Total War: [link] Scroll down until you get to the Peltastai Makedonikoi (Pheraspidai) entry.

Note: this is the first time I've ever attempted such a conversion and all things considered, I think it came out pretty well. All that's left for me to do now is to continue to refine the design. This particular helmet design (but not so much the colors of the helmet crest and the feathers) will be used henceforth for all Sergeants, Veteran Sergeants, and Officers.

His shield is silver to reflect his status as a Veteran.
Epilochias Nicolaos Palaiopoulos has earned himself a small list of honours in the service of the Autokrator of Mankind, and the 1-22 Castor Lancers "Double Deuces" Regiment. These include:

- Necron Triarch Walker destroyed via Demolitions Charge
- Assaulted Tyranid Hive Tyrant (it was a defeat and he lost his squad, but he lived to tell about it. He still won't explain how)
- Black Templars Deathstorm Drop Pod destroyed by Melta Bomb (lost only one Veteran guardsman for his troubles)

Your doing ancient greeks and I've just started a Guard army based on the Roman Legion!

Nice work on the conversion - I'm still getting used to using green-stuff myself... I get proficient quiet quickly though, having to 'modify' all these helmets to look Roman gives me little choice...

thanks! mind you, this is essentially a prototype, and I plan on refining the design. it's hard work, but, a few things that I'd suggest for you:

I am not modifying the standard guardsman's helmet. It was bad enough trying to fit the helmet around the headset featured on the sergeant's head provided on the sprue. if you want to sculpt, try using a dremel to narrow the headset (using green stuff to smooth it out). If you want to convert the entire helmet, just use green stuff to make a new one. use these: [link]
